Etsy seller policies describe which products may be listed, how sellers must represent their items, and the responsibilities that come with operating a shop. This guide is an educational overview, not a substitute for reading the current policy pages or getting legal advice for your circumstances.
1. Confirm the item belongs on Etsy
Etsy requires listed items to meet its marketplace eligibility rules, including the applicable made, designed, handpicked, or sourced standards. A product being handmade-looking or popular elsewhere does not automatically make it eligible. Review the current Creativity Standards and Seller Policy before listing.
2. Represent the item honestly
- Describe who made or designed the item and where it is shipped from accurately.
- Use appropriate original product images or otherwise permitted visuals.
- Disclose production partners where required.
- Make clear what is included, the item’s condition, materials, size, and limitations.
- Disclose AI use where Etsy’s current rules require it.
3. Know your intellectual-property obligations
Do not assume that a design is safe because other sellers use it, because it is easy to find online, or because you edited it slightly. Copyright, trademark, licensing, and other rights can all matter. Review Etsy’s Intellectual Property Policy and Trademark Policy.
4. Handle customers and orders responsibly
Provide accurate processing and shipping timelines, respond appropriately to customer messages, and follow applicable rules on refunds, cancellations, cases, taxes, product safety, and consumer protection. Requirements can depend on product, seller location, and buyer location. Seek qualified advice where necessary.
5. Keep up with changes
Policies and interface instructions can change. Review Etsy’s official House Rules and Help Centre periodically, particularly before launching a new product type or a new form of advertising. Do not rely solely on old forum posts, social videos, or third-party summaries.
